Sources and calculations
Our main sources are the Korean Statistical Information Service (KOSIS) and the Bank of Korea's ECOS. Pages identify any additional sources, estimates and assumptions they use.
We collect published data, align periods, regions and units, and calculate changes and shares. Displayed values use at most one decimal place; counts of people use whole numbers. Rounded component shares may not add up to exactly 100%.
Before comparing numbers
A reference date identifies the period covered by the data, not today's conditions or a live reading. Release schedules and the latest available periods differ across indicators. Revisions and collection timing can also change historical values.
Check that periods, units and populations are comparable. Two indicators moving together does not establish causation. Consult the original data and further evidence when assessing personal circumstances or making important decisions.
