How to read M2 money supply
Separate the amount of money, its growth rate and the financial instruments that hold it.
M2 in the 2026.06 data is 4,209.9 T KRW, with a year-on-year change of +6.0%. Slower growth can still mean a larger total than a year earlier when the growth rate remains positive.
M2, average balances and unadjusted data
M2 is a broad money measure covering cash, readily accessible deposits and a defined range of short-term financial instruments. This page uses the Bank of Korea's monthly average balances, without seasonal adjustment. Average balances describe the period rather than a single end-of-month balance.
Levels and growth rates
Year-on-year growth is (this month's M2 ÷ M2 in the same month a year earlier − 1) × 100. The level shows scale; the growth rate shows how quickly that scale changed. Growth is left unavailable when the comparison observation is missing.
This is an unadjusted year-on-year comparison. It differs from seasonally adjusted month-on-month growth in Bank of Korea releases. M2 growth alone does not establish the cause of, or predict, movements in prices or asset values.
M1-like funds and component groups
ChartKo's M1-like funds add cash, demand deposits and transferable savings deposits from this source table. Their share is that sum divided by total M2. Check definitions before comparing it with separately published M1 series using other conventions.
Components are grouped into seven categories for readability. The total and old M2 series are excluded from the component stack to avoid double counting. Rounding, classifications and revisions may mean displayed shares do not sum to exactly 100%.
Units and reference periods
Source values are in billions of KRW and are divided by 1,000 for display in trillions of KRW (T KRW). These are nominal amounts, without an adjustment for inflation. The latest published and collected month can lag behind the current date.
